I was on the radio!

I get so excited about these fun opportunities I have to discuss what I love!

I was a guest on Holistic Revolution on Nashville's WXNA this week, chatting about drama therapy. I share about myself, my experiences that led me to become a therapist, and a lot about drama therapy practice, concepts, and my own personal passions within the work.

If you'd like to listen, here is the archive of the broadcast. Thanks to host Ramona Reid and WXNA for having me!

Really, What the Hell are You Doing?

I know what it's like to be worn down, flattened by depression, too anxious to do fun things or want to take on life's challenges (even the things that wouldn't normally be challenges). It's no joke. It's debilitating. Feeling that way, whatever's in your way, changes everything. And when that's reality, we have to be kind and accepting with ourselves, get some support, and work to move back to our healthy selves again. But we need to commit.

It's important to kindly ask yourself, what are you doing? Really. I mean, do you think you get unlimited time on this earth and the best way to spend it is unhappy, unsatisfied, and focused on things that aren't a part of your deepest values? Yes, at times in our lives we will have phases that are truly challenging, and that's what I'm here for - to help you when you need it.

I'm also here to kick your butt a little. One thing I know is that we won't get anywhere unless you are motivated to do so. Unless it's worth it to you to be uncomfortable for awhile in order to find yourself and your joy again. You getting clear on your values and priorities will help you along immensely, because it will keep you from wasting your energy and spirit on things that really don't freaking matter.

I am such a believer in you that I know you can't achieve what you want without your own FULL investment in your process. I see myself as a partner, not the Holder of All Answers. Believe that you can get through, have the guts to stand by yourself, and find the support you need to get to where you want to be.

It's Official: I am now a Registered Drama Therapist

This is an accomplishment that has been a long time coming, and I'm very excited and proud to share that I have received my official credential as a Registered Drama Therapist through the North American Drama Therapy Association, the international organization which governs our field.

It takes years of work, training, and practice to earn this professional credential, and I hope it reflects both my experience with and love for drama as a healing modality.

I look forward to continuing to write about, speak about, and provide drama therapy services here in Nashville.

Here's to continued growth and learning, whatever your passion is!

UPDATE (6/9/2017): I am also now listed on the NADTA's website.

Advice of the Day: Transitions

Tolerating times of transition can bring up all your ugly demons, bad habits, and fear responses. You can't rush through the transition, and you know in hindsight you will probably appreciate its gifts. If you're struggling today, use your power of choice to be kind to yourself, give gratitude and have faith in the process at hand. Give it up to the bigger forces at play, however you meaningfully conceive of them (God, universe, Santa, whatever), get therapy support, or get your sweat or meditation on, and know in your gut that something worthwhile is at work. It's corny but true: this too shall pass. We don't always know what's "right" or "best" until after the fact, so just be where you are. #AdviceoftheDay #LifeTransitions
